Zibeyda Seyidova works with abstract painting as a space of inner experience. Rather than seeking to depict, narrate, or explain, her works create a state of perception inviting viewer to slow down and become fully present.
At the core of Seyidova’s practice is an interest in liminal states – between form and dissolution, between visible and what remains just beyond reach. Light and shadow aren’t treated as opposites, but as part of a continuous field: light gently reveals depth, while shadow sustains form, allowing it to remain open and unresolved.
Seyidova avoids fixed symbolism and narrative structures. Her compositions resist a single focal point, allowing the eye to move freely across the canvas. Texture, rhythm, layers of paint become central to perception, while traces of the palette knife and areas of removal preserve the memory of gesture and process.
Suggestions of fabric or drapery frequently emerge – not as literal objects, but as states of matter. They evoke corporeality, shelter, and the fragile balance between exposure and protection, addressing aspects of human experience that resist language and fixed definition.
For Seyidova, abstraction isn’t an escape from reality, but a way of approaching its immaterial dimension, leaving space for individual experience and interpretation.
