About

New Emergence Art was founded by Habib Hajallie RBA as a platform intended to champion and showcase living artists around the world. The aim of New Emergence Art is to galvanise the careers of underrepresented and emerging artists from all backgrounds.

As a full time artist, since 2019, Hajallie has experienced the struggles of trying to obtain exposure and financial security during the early years of his career. New Emergence Art was created to empower talented emerging artists by providing a cash prize to enable practitioners to offset some of the costs of materials, expenses and working, or simply to encourage new artists to keep pursuing their ambitions.

Habib Hajallie is an elected member of The Royal Society of British Artists, an honouree on Forbes’ prestigious 30 Under 30 list 2023, the winner of The UK New Artist of The Year Award 2022 and the winner of The Hermione Hammond Drawing Prize 2023 amongst other awards.

Hajallie's work seeks to rectify the historic lack of visibility of figures from ethnic minority backgrounds. Therefore, questioning preconceived notions regarding what it means to be quintessentially British, as well as the uncomfortable nuances associated with this, is imperative. He employs delicate mark-making techniques with precise strokes of the everyday black ballpoint pen. Specialising in the use of a monochrome medium to celebrate Blackness allows Hajallie, somewhat paradoxically, to show that there is more to an individual than just the colour of their skin.
