Brought up in Belfast during the Troubles, Warren was exposed to a high degree of violence - from an early age he became obsessed with horror comics, which in turn led to creating his own characters on paper. This fundamental desire to summon up faces from his own imagination has featured throughout his artistic journey. Warren aims to produce paintings that escape the normal fundamentals of portraiture. Incorporating modern notions of faith and self belief, his bold and colourful portraits are often associated with the rejuvenating power of change. His imagined characters are invariably in the process of physical and spiritual metamorphosis. Indeed, it is the energizing quality of transformation that the artist is most inspired by and driven to capture.
