Preoccupied by the passage of time and its capacity to re-shape memory and reality, Reid’s paintings draw inspiration from the fabric of 21st century life, yet remain haunted by ghosts of the past. Literature, music, history, film and the constant hum of social media all inform the artist’s visual language.
Fusing figuration, gestural abstraction, and realism set in isolation or dreamlike landscapes, Reid’s work evokes the artists own subconscious and a need to remember our shared histories. Manipulating materials and narrative with a technique that’s both painterly and restrained, he orchestrates scenes that can feel cinematic, mythic and deeply psychological. The works are unified not always by style alone, but by a shared conceptual landscape exploring the collapse of time, the instability of identity and the eeriness of memory.
